Chapter 47 An Iris Potion! 450 Gold Coins in Hand!

Buno rushed to Lynn’s side and knelt before him.

“Master Lynn, are you alright?” Buno asked.

Lynn nodded to reassure him, and continued giving out orders.

“Take thirty soldiers and clean up the beast corpses around you.”

“Yes, Lord Lynn.”

Lynn called the remaining warriors over and counted the number of casualties. Fortunately, there was not many. The lizard knew that Lynn was the main enemy and had focused most of its attention on him. The battle also ended in a quick manner which allowed for a minimum amount of friendly casualties. It was a clean victory.

“Follow the path we came from and start cutting down trees. Also, clear the surrounding bushes and grass,” Lynn ordered the warriors.

“Yes!”

Lynn had previously thought about making a path to the mountains and having the blacksmiths live in a stronghold near the ore. Fenglin Village would provide them with sufficient food and water as they would be focused on only smithing and not agriculture. The village would also build the shelters and housing for the smiths. Lynn wanted to transport the food and greystone up to the mountain and have the forged weapons transported down, but they would first need to create a road so that the carriage could pass through unimpeded.

Once he finished giving out orders, Lynn calmed down his fear and went to the overgrown grass beside him. He pushed the grass aside and saw a purple flower that resembled an iris. Magic flowers! Lynn inspected the flowers and found that the rhizomes were growing strong. It could be breeded!

The magic flower was a large potion type that would reproduce slower compared to the mushrooms. Lynn would have to let the bulb grow before he would be able to divide the plant and slowly begin their cultivation. Once the flowers matured, mana would gather inside of them. After someone plucked the mature flower it would regrow to its natural state. To Lynn’s surprise, the flower was purple.

Lynn focused on the mana inside of the flower and perceived that it contained the thunder attribute, and since the difficulty of reproducing a flower potion was high, it would sell for a higher price compared to a mushroom of the same attribute.

Lynn carefully dug out around ten centimeters of soil and found out that there were no white roots on the outside of the mound. This proved that Lynn had dug deep enough as to not injure any of the rhizomes, so he exhaled deeply. As long as the rhizomes were intact the plant would continue to grow, but the soil that was still attached would also affect its growth.

It was getting late which made it impossible to clean up any more of the surrounding area today. Lynn simply ordered all of the soldiers to return to the territory, and by the time he arrived at the village it was completely dark. Lynn went back to the castle and took a bath.

Originally, Lynn wanted to have a meal first but Lucy was anxious and wanted to plant the flower. So Lynn accompanied her to the planting house before anything else. Since the building that had all of the flame potions had fire attribute mana in the air, it was not suitable for a thunder attribute plant to grow. Luckily, there was a vacant greenhouse which Lynn planned to expand. So, he planted the iris flowers there.

The purple flowers could already be harvested, but Lynn was not in a hurry and intended to take it slow for the next few days. Lucy took a liking to the flowers so she watched them for a while before having dinner with Lynn. Once they finished eating, Lynn took out a nearby box he had hidden and presented it to Lucy.

“This is a gift for you.”

Full of curiosity, Lucy opened it.

“A potion?!” She exclaimed in surprise.

“This was found in Ino’s castle. It is a lightning potion.”

“Why do you not sell it? It should be valuable, right? Their mana is almost gone?” She asked.

“Do not sell it. You should eat it and prepare to become a magician.”

Lucy lost all sense of reason for a moment, then quickly replied to him.

“No… It should be, it is too expensive. I… We still lack money… I cannot eat it.”

Even though she said that, her clear jade eyes kept secretly glancing at the potion. Every noble that has existed all wanted to become a magician. It was a desire that flowed through their veins.

“Thunder irises can be reproduced,” Lynn said. “By spring of next year, we will have more than one hundred of them. You can become a magician without worrying about money.”

Lucy was a little moved, but she was still distressed. If Lynn wanted to eat the potion, she would not have any problem with that at all. Yet, if she wanted to eat it herself, she would start counting how many gold coins she would be eating. She was afraid that one plant cost seventy silver coins, which meant three plants were two gold coins. Lucy had a distressed expression on her which Lynn found adorable. Lynn stretched out his hand and she leaned in obediently.

“I originally planned to buy potions to make you a magician. Money is not nearly as precious as you, you know?” Lynn stated.

Lucy hummed softly and blushed.

“Okay,” Lynn started, “Take the potion and I will teach you how to meditate.”

Lucy smiled and then blinked.

“Then am I going to call you my mentor?”

Lynn gave her a weird look.

“That is not suitable right? It is like a strange game.”

Lucy suddenly leaned forward and kissed Lynn on the cheek. She then blushed and avoided making eye contact with him before whispering.

“This is a thank you for teaching me how to meditate, teacher Lynn.”

Lucy could not stand the awkwardness anymore and turned around to run to the bedroom. Lynn smiled and followed her upstairs. Lucy took the potion for the first time that night and began to meditate, but she was a little ignorant. Compared to Lynn she did not completely understand the steps to properly meditate, but Lynn was patient and would teach her over and over again until she learned. Late into the night, she had already failed several times. She looked at Lynn with tearful eyes.

“Do you think I am stupid?”

“Do not worry,” Lynn said as he hugged her. “I do not think you are stupid. If you fail this time, we will just have to do it again together.”

Lucy hugged him hard in response.

“I would like you to teach me,” she said softly.

Lynn smiled. It was impossible to continue teaching her tonight as it had already grown late. The two of them lied down and fell into a slumber. In the blink of an eye, five days had passed by. The construction of a road to the mountain had gradually opened up the land, and a large amount of wood was taken down to be used to build more houses.

Hammer heard that there was iron ore in the mountain, and could not wait to go up there with the twenty apprentices he had recently found. Lynn sent ten half beast warriors to protect Hammer and his apprentices, as he assumed that the mountain would be safe without the Archfiend.

The first batch of steel had been forged and passed on to Lynn, who found the quality of the crude iron to be acceptable. It was several times better than the iron weapons Lynn had previously bought. Just the ore by itself was of exceptional quality, and with some simple tampering it could be made into a fine weapon.

Lynn’s army had yet to increase in numbers for the time being, as 9,500 points had been spent evolving his warriors during the past five days. The army had once again gone through four evolutions or more. There were five additional fighters who were rank five warriors this time around. The strength of the legion had increased once again.

Then, the attendant who was in charge of selling the magic book finally rushed back. With the man came the gold Lynn was anticipating. Excluding the commissions for the Magician’s Association, there was a total of 450 gold. The heavy amount made Lynn feel rich for the very first time.
