Chapter 20 - Lynn succeeds in Sensing Magic! It is a Miracle!
Lynn ate the magic mushroom and felt a subtle sensation flow thoughout his body. He began to meditate immediately after. Since he consumed monster meat and potions for such a long amount of time, he had a strong magical presence. Three hours later, Lynn opened his eyes in defeat as he could not master his magic. He took out a pen and recorded his findings on some paper.
”To have a feel for magic, you have to find a way to make the magic inside the body surge stronger to make it easier to find.”
Lynn had recorded hundreds of sheets worth of notes, as he failed and recorded his gained knowledge in order to succeed. His constant failures led to constant reflections. Lynn started training for magic late compared to Linze who began at the age of five. If Lynn wanted to catch up with these nobles, he would have to keep contemplating his mistakes and correct them. He could not afford to make the same mistake twice. That way, he would make up for lost time.
Lynn drank some water, used the bathroom, and then stretched his body to make sure it was not stiff. He then continued to meditate. Once he entered a meditative state, he tried to make himself specifically feel the magic based on his previous experiences. When he deeply concentrated, he suddenly felt that he had some control over the magic.
Following the feeling, he quickly searched through his body for his mana, however the initial presence was weak. He tried hard, but the results were less than ideal. What made Lynn feel even more helpless was that his sense of control over the magic gradually weakened over time. He was not willing to fail again, and so he quickly began to think in order to find a way to fix the situation.
Suddenly, Lynn remembered the night when the beasts attacked. The feeling of being targeted by a second ranked monster! He felt a moment of excitement as he remembered the presence of his mana back then. Lynn began to recall the day. To remember the Archfiend. The powerful sense of death re-emerged from his mind, and the magic in Lynn’s body began to react. This was it!
Lynn got excited and reflected on two things. He had done it. A more specific perception of magic and a stronger surge of power from within. The rest of it seemed to be like the water in a canal, slowly flowing forward. Lynn had instantly found a surge of magic through this technique. His consciousness seemed to come into contact with the magic for a moment. Lynn focused and instantly felt the faint magic inside his body. The soldiers who sensed the change in their Lord quickly gathered under his presence.
All the while, the whole castle had begun to exude a warm feeling. The villagers did not feel it, but the animals became uneasy. Several of Lynn’s entourage who had trained in martial arts stared in the direction of the castle.
”It’s… Holy Emperor… Lord Lynn is a genius…”
”Such a strong magical presence. Lord Lynn is going to be a flame wizard.”
”It has been less than a month since he started eating Archfiend and potions… It is a miracle, Lord Lynn!”
Buno was also in the village at this time and excitedly ran to the castle. He followed a few of the servants who had followed Lynn to this territory with tears in their eyes. Only the people who followed Lynn all the way knew how long Lynn had waited these past ten years.
Lynn was abandoned by his family, without any resources to keep him alive. All of the knowledge he gained was due to his hard work and right now, Lynn achieved his own success. Buno knelt on one knee and looked to the direction of the castle.
”Lord, your wisdom guides me.” he said.
Wisdom was the most respected thing on this continent, and Lynn showed so much of it that all of his entourage felt an incomparable admiration. The villagers finally realized what was happening and knelt in the direction of the castle with excitement.
Lucy stood outside of the study, shuffling her feet as she felt like she will burst with happiness. She could not help but want to hug Lynn, but she could not disturb him as it would affect his progress in controlling magic. After half an hour or so, the magic presence faded away.
Lynn opened his eyes and extended his right hand. A small explosion sounded out and a small cluster of flames burned at Lynn’s fingertips. Magic! Lynn finally did it! There was a knock at the door from an unknown person, and Lucy’s voice sounded out.
”Lynn, may I come in?”
Lynn stood up and walked to the door. He opened it and hugged Lucy.
”I did it,” he said.
Lucy did not expect Lynn to suddenly hold her, and squirmed out her arms from his hold. She then embraced him back with gentle caresses.
”It is great. You are my pride,” she whispered.
”Thank you for your support,” Lynn whispered back.
The two of them hugged each other, and after a while Lucy pushed Lynn away with a red face.
”What are you going to do next?”
She had noticed some changes in his body and was panicking to search for a topic to talk about. Lynn coughed and then replied with confidence.
”Take first place in the winter wizard assessment.”
