Chapter 11: Why does it have so many skills?

“Feels… so impressive,” Bai Qianqian stared at Diancie, her gaze fixed on the information displayed in the Pokédex. The introduction just now seemed incredibly grand. Terms like ‘praised as the most beautiful in the world’ and ‘legendary mythical Pokémon’ caught her attention. The ‘class’ felt entirely different. Moreover…

“Why does it have so many special moves?” Lin Sheng, holding his Vulpix, looked thoroughly puzzled.

Something was off. His Vulpix only had three moves listed in the Pokédex—Tail Whip, Ember, and Harden. But the special moves Diancie had just shown were over the top. They were rattled off without a pause, with names like Moonblast, Diamond Storm, and Primitive Power. They sounded ridiculously powerful.

As a gamer deeply immersed in the gaming world, Lin Sheng certainly understood what “special moves” meant. They were basically akin to skills in a game, right? But what was the deal?

“Why does Diancie have so many special moves? My Vulpix only has three. This isn’t fair! Diancie’s special moves are overflowing!”

“I’ve noticed, Diancie’s types are Fairy and Rock. Rock is somewhat understandable, but what’s Fairy type?” Chu Kelian blinked her large eyes, her hand resting on her chin in confusion.

Both Bai Qianqian and Lin Sheng seemed bewildered. How would they know?

“Let’s ask the shopkeeper later. The… Pokémon? Is that what they’re called? There seem to be so many mysteries,” Chu Kelian murmured, growing increasingly intrigued.

“Emmm…”

Seeing the three guests whispering among themselves, Diancie turned back to focus on the cat and the mouse. It couldn’t help but feel that the cat was quite clumsy—it couldn’t even catch a single mouse. If it were Diancie, it would’ve flattened the mouse with a large rock.

Not long after, Guxin emerged from the booth. By his side, a bipedal, red-skinned lizard walked—none other than Charmander. However, the Charmander appeared somewhat bashful, gripping Guxin’s pant leg and taking cautious steps, observing its surroundings with curiosity.

“So, this is Charmander? Wow~ I’ve just realized that little lizards can also be this cute.” Chu Kelian looked at Charmander with evident surprise, clearly quite pleased with its appearance. It almost looked like a small dinosaur.

“It does indeed resemble a Western dragon, just smaller and without wings,” Lin Sheng examined Charmander curiously, pushing up his glasses as he recalled the image of a Western dragon. Astonishingly, it seemed to be quite accurate… Well, this was rewriting his world view, as this red-skinned lizard might actually grow up to become a dragon.

Wait a minute… Lin Sheng fell silent for a moment, looking down at the Nine-Tailed Fox in his arms. Could it be that even the Nine-Tailed Fox was a creature from Chinese mythology…?

Then why did he ever think that Western dragons didn’t exist?

“Ly…” (Charmander’s cry)

The moment Charmander appeared, all three humans stared intently at it. Startled, Charmander sought refuge behind Guxin, peeking out cautiously, its eyes darting around with a mixture of curiosity and caution.

“Don’t worry, little one. They won’t harm you,” Guxin comforted Charmander with a gentle voice, noticing the lizard’s reaction. He picked Charmander up, speaking softly to it.

“This little guy is somewhat shy and timid. If you want to take care of it properly, you need to communicate with it regularly.”

Afterward, Guxin smiled at Chu Kelian and remarked, “If we were to go by the game’s logic, a timid Charmander that breathes fire would indeed be quite special.”

However, in reality, a Pokémon’s growth wasn’t affected by its personality as in the games. Of course, it wasn’t completely without influence—Pokémon with more passive personalities might not enjoy specialized training. Naturally, this affected their overall strength. Just because you bask in the sun doesn’t mean you’ll become stronger.

“Yeah, yeah, of course!” Chu Kelian blinked repeatedly, looking at Charmander with delight. She had noticed that the tip of Charmander’s tail actually bore a small flame cluster. How magical!

“Charmander, this is going to be your Trainer in the future. You should get along well with her,” Guxin lowered his head and spoke gently to Charmander.

Charmander hesitantly looked up at Chu Kelian, its curious yet somewhat timid eyes practically melting Chu Kelian’s heart.

“What the shopkeeper said is right, Charmander. We’re going to be friends from now on. I’ll take good care of you,” Chu Kelian smiled cheerfully at Charmander. She may not have understood what Guxin meant by “Trainer,” but interpreting it as “friend” worked for her. She beamed, conveying her goodwill to the shy little creature.

“Lii~” (Charmander’s cry)

Sensing Chu Kelian’s warmth, Charmander broke into a smile, letting out a soft chirp.

“Wow~ so adorable! Shopkeeper, can I hold it?”

“Of course, just be careful of the flames on its tail,” Guxin chuckled, passing Charmander to Chu Kelian with a cautious reminder.

“It’s warm, and not heavy at all.”

Carefully taking Charmander into her arms, Chu Kelian gazed at its smile and couldn’t help but gently rub her cheek against its head. Wow! It felt so comfortable!

Charmander’s tiny paw hurriedly pushed against Chu Kelian’s face. Although it understood that this was a way for a Trainer to express affection, this woman’s forehead was really hard!

“Be a little more careful, Chu Kelian, the flames might burn your clothes,” Bai Qianqian reminded Chu Kelian helplessly. Her friend really left her speechless sometimes.

“Shopkeeper, are the flames on Charmander’s tail never extinguished?”

Seeing that Chu Kelian hadn’t heard her words at all, probably too excited, Bai Qianqian rolled her eyes and curiously asked Guxin.

Regardless, having flames on its tail was indeed quite extraordinary for a creature.

“Yes, the flames on Charmander’s tail are present from birth. When the flames go out, it signifies the end of its life,” Guxin explained with a smile.

“The flames of life, huh?” Lin Sheng exclaimed.

“That means we have to be careful all the time. What if it accidentally falls into water?”

Chu Kelian snapped out of her excitement, her brows furrowing in concern.

“It’s not that simple. How should I explain the flames on Charmander’s tail? It’s not the kind of fire that we traditionally understand, the shopkeeper’s explanation is quite vivid.”

“These flames are more like a manifestation of its will and life. If Charmander has a strong and resilient will, even if it’s soaked in heavy rain for three days and nights, these flames will still burn vigorously.”

“But if Charmander falls ill or becomes extremely fatigued, or if its mood is low, the flames on its tail will dim.”

“And if it’s exposed to constant rain or falls into water in this condition, then there’s a real danger.”

Guxin explained in detail, essentially saying that whether these flames burn properly or not is closely tied to Charmander’s physical health and emotional well-being.

“I see.” Chu Kelian suddenly understood.

“Of course, as long as nothing’s wrong, you don’t have to worry about it putting its tail in the water. Just be a bit careful during baths,” Guxin added. Though water wouldn’t extinguish the flames on Charmander’s tail, the sensation wasn’t something Charmander enjoyed.

“Don’t worry, I’ll definitely raise Charmander to be plump and healthy! Hehe~ It looks so adorable,” Chu Kelian exclaimed with a cheerful smile, hugging Charmander tightly. The more she looked at it, the more she liked it.

Seeing this, Bai Qianqian and Lin Sheng exchanged knowing smiles. They fully understood Chu Kelian’s current state of mind.

“If a Pokémon is cherished by its Trainer, that’s truly the best thing,” Bai Qianqian commented.

“But since the beauty seems very satisfied, that will be 250,000 credits,” Guxin also smiled contentedly, then brought up the payment details.
