1.Three Feet of White Silk

Cheng Qianye came to the realization that she had crossed over.

Nevertheless, she did not have the time to give into her surprise at the current moment.

This was due to the fact that her neck was being squeezed tightly by a strip of white silk. Her tongue was forced out from the confines of her mouth and she felt as if her head was on the verge of exploding. She couldn’t inhale any air and her heart was beating frantically from the lack of oxygen.

Her body was hanging on the beam by three feet of white silk, commonly known as hanging oneself.

At this moment, there were several women in ancient clothing surrounding her and weeping bitterly, but no one came to her rescue.

She was in agony and kicked her feet with all her might.

Fortunately, the strip of white silk wasn’t of very good quality and she unexpectedly managed to break it in her struggle.

Cheng Qianye rolled on the ground as she covered her neck and desperately breathed in the fresh air, coughing violently.

A middle aged woman in a beautiful long gown with luxurious phoenix and dragon embroidery on it threw herself onto her body and embraced her as she wailed, “My child, my child!”

Cheng Qianye’s throat was burning in pain and she was unable to speak.

She cursed away in her heart : “What ‘my child’!? You call yourself my mother yet you have the ability to watch me hang myself.”

At that moment, countless images flashed through her mind. It was like the pictures and sounds from another person’s life were compressed and crammed into her brain in one breath, fast forwarded at the speed of light.

It was a miracle that she could even understand it all.

This lady really was her mother. Tsk! Her current body’s mother.

Others crossed over, and she did too.

Others who crossed over as a Princess woke up to find themselves surrounded by seven or eight servant girls, waiting to serve her food and drink.

But when she crossed over as a Princess, she woke up to find herself surrounded by seven or eight servant girls who were waiting to watch her hang herself.

After sorting through the tangled memories in her mind, Cheng Qianye realized that she had crossed over to a time of turbulent war and seperatist regimes.

The body she was inhabiting possessed the same name as that of herself in her original world, Cheng Qianye. Her father was a duke who wielded great influence, Lord Jin Wei, whereas she was a princess. Without a doubt, this was a really good background.

It was a pity that Lord Jin Wei had passed away not too long ago.

Now, the monarch of Jin country was her twin brother, Gong Ziyu, who had been conferred with the title of Marquis Jin Yue.

Unfortunately, he had been poisoned to death an hour ago.

At this moment, the corpse of the man whose features resembled hers was lying in front of her. It didn’t seem to have cooled completely yet.

Lord Jin Wei had many wives and concubines other than their mother, Yang Ji. Another favourite concubine of his, Li Ji had also given birth to a son named Gong Zi Zhang.

Li Ji had been very favoured by Lord Jin Wei and Gong Zi Zhang had also competed with Gong Ziyu for the position of successor.

However, his means had been too cruel and tyrannical, causing Lord Jin Wei to detest him and he even demoted him to Zhongmu fief.

Recently, the newly appointed Lord Jin Yue had led his army to Zhongmu fief where Gong Zi Zhang had held a banquet to flatter him. He had presented a pair of beautiful men to his brother at this banquet.

Lord Jin Yue had been very thrilled by the beauties by his side, doting on them, and negligently drank the wine that was presented to him by those jade-like hands, dying from poisoning immediately.  The most update n0vels are published on ɴo(v)elFɪre.ɴet

Although, his attendant had managed to snatch back his body.

But at this moment, Gong Zi Zhang had them completely encircled. He had dragged over a concubine of Lord Jin Yue who had been at the banquet and stripped her before piercing her with his spear and holding her up high at the front. Then, he threatened that he would do the same to all the womenfolk of Lord Jin Yue.

Due to the death of their Lord, the will of his subjects had been defeated and they only resisted passively. In no time, Gong Zi Zhang was on the verge of breaching their line of defence. Read Web Novels Online Free - NovelFire

Yang Ji had no other choice. She was forced to take along her daughter and daughter-in-law together to her son’s body to hang themselves by his side. It was better than dying a humiliating death by the hands of Concubine Li who held great resentment against herself.

When Cheng Qianye had transmigrated, it was at the moment that the fiery tempered princess had hung herself, the fragrance fading as the jade crumbled. Cheng Qianye who had just awakened did not have the time to stabilize her mood nor absorb her new knowledge and comprehend this world.

Because right before her eyes, there was a pregnant woman who was standing on a chair and wrapping a long layer of silk around her snow-white neck.

“Don’t! Don’t do it!” Cheng Qianye pulled the woman’s skirt and racked her brain, sifting through the foggy memories to find the identity of this woman. “Sister-in-law, don’t die!”

Although this sister-in-law wasn’t actually her sister-in-law, Cheng Qianye couldn’t just sit back and watch as a pregnant woman hung herself in front of her and subconsciously embraced her leg.

This sister-in-law named Xu Ji was a beauty with a gentle disposition. At this moment, she was weeping like a pear blossom bathed in the rain. “Younger sister-in-law, If we fall into the hands of Gong Zi Zhang, you also know what a miserable fate we’ll suffer. Let me follow my husband, ah.”

Just as the two people were struggling over the skirt, the door was pushed open, bringing in a frigid air. A young man stepped inside and strode forward.

This person had clear and handsome features with a refined and scholarly aura. He was dressed in armor and the long sword he was holding was stained with blood.

Cheng Qianye sifted through her memories and found that this man was a good friend of Gong Ziyu who had grown up together with him since childhood. He was also his most trusted subordinate. His surname was Xiao and his given name was Jin.

Xiao Jin made a salute and said with a heavy expression, “My Lord has passed and the soldiers’ morale has slackened, I’m afraid that the defense will soon fall. Please allow Xu Ji to go with this one. This servant pledges with this one’s life that this one will preserve the blood of my Lord.”

Xu Ji asked, “What about Mother and sister-in-law?”

Xiao Jin’s complexion dulled and he bowed his head, not responding.

Cheng Qianye’s “mother” Yang Ji raised her head and grabbed Xu Ji, pushing her forward as she said excitedly, “Good, good. Jin Gong, [efn_note]公 – Gong meaning official[/efn_note] this is the only remaining blood relation Yu’er has left. Consider the mutual affection between you two, growing up together. You must save her.”

Xiao Jin kneeled down on one knee. “Your Servant will not hesitate to go through fire and water.”

He sprang back up to his feet and took a quick glance at Cheng Qianye who was sitting on the ground. Pulling out a dagger from his waist, he threw it in front of her with a ‘bang’.

Cheng Qianye was startled by this sound.

The doors were wide open, bringing in a cold draught and indistinct sounds of fighting.

The night was dark, with a fishy smell in the air and the faint red glow of fire.

Cheng Qianye looked down at the bloodstained dagger in front of her. At this moment, she was finally hit with the realization that she had arrived at another time and space, an era of incessant war, and an era that regarded human life as trash.

In a flash, she was left with merely two paths which she could choose from. One was to take the dagger and take her own life, and the other was to wait for those savage men outside to charge in and drag her out to torture her to death.

She didn’t want to choose either.

Cheng Qianye took a deep breath. Just as Xiao Jin was about to turn around and leave, she stood up and called out in a hoarse voice, “Please wait a moment, perhaps we have another way.”

__________

Gong Zi Zhang was the successor to the crown after the death of Marquis Jin Yue. Even if he had used despicable methods to murder his older brother. It was already a fait accompli and the whole army had lost all thoughts of resistance.

Gong Zi Zhang and his men finally slaughtered their way to the end and stood in front of the last line of defense. Filled with triumph, he declared, “Lay down your arms and surrender now and not only will I pardon you, but I will also continue to entrust you with important responsibilities. However, if you do not surrender, once I succeed the throne I will massacre all three of your generations.”

Just as he said this, he caught sight of a man wearing a jade crown and a broad robe coming out from the shadows behind the beacon lamps, walking unhurriedly.

The light from the blazing flames illuminated his pale face.

His neck was wrapped in bandages, yet he was no different than usual, like a jade tree before the wind, graceful and elegant. [efn_note]玉树临风 – which describes people who are as natural and beautiful as jade (usually refers to men).[/efn_note] There was no sign of being seriously poisoned at all.

Gong Zi Zhang was gobsmacked, “No, impossible, I saw your dead body with my own eyes!”

However, his brother who was standing on the platform did not say anything and merely looked at him coldly, like a ghost come back from hell.

Xiao Jin stood by his side and pulled out his sabre before giving a loud shout, “Arrest the rebel!”

Immediately, the soldiers’ morale was invigorated and the sounds of slaughter blotted out the sky and covered the earth. [efn_note]铺天盖地 – (pū tiān gài dì) an idiom used to describe something as overwhelming.[/efn_note]
