Side Story: Rainy Days

Lefi’s POV

I was out walking in the meadow area again today, as had been my daily routine since I became pregnant.

It was always sunny and pleasant in the meadow area…but the weather this day was different.

The sky was covered with clouds.

Water drops were falling from the clouds.

Rain…

They hit my umbrella, bounced off it, and fell.

Every time I walked, the rainwater that fell on the ground splashed on my feet.

“…Kakaka. Thinking about it, it’s been a long time since I’ve experienced being hit by rain.”

Somewhat amused, I looked up at the umbrella I was holding.

Dragons do not generally avoid the rain.

They may take shelter from the rain because it depresses them, but even if they were drenched all day long, it would not even cool them down, much less make them physically ill.

Therefore, [Umbrellas] was a culture that did not exist in the Dragon Race.

Well, if I had been the same person as before, I would have just thought, “So what?”

But now, I could feel a sense of style in using the umbrella.

A meadow with a different color than usual.

The castle of the Demon King, covered with gray clouds and drenched in rain.

Familiar landscapes, yet unfamiliar scenery.

“Just by the way you live… you see things differently.”

I walked on, feeling good.

–In the grassland area, the weather basically never changes.

The plants and trees in the dungeon fed only on the dungeon’s magic power, so even if it never rained, they did not wither and remained lush and green.

Therefore, when it rained, it was only on the days Yuki set his mood to make it happen.

He sometimes deliberately changed the weather because he thought it would be boring to always have clear skies.

However, he was very particular about having “four seasons,” and would even allow snow, for example, to fall in certain months.

Since it might cause people to get sick if he changed the temperature too rapidly, he only made subtle changes to the temperature, so basically, he almost always kept the weather pleasant and sunny.

So, rainy days like today only occurred once a month, and when they did, the young girls – or rather, the “girl group” – rejoiced.

The girls, who have the talent to turn anything into a game, seemed to find the rain exciting. Whenever they find it raining, they would look at the sky and say, “It’s raining today! Okay, let’s play in the rain!” They put on their coats and boots, and went outside in high spirits.

I saw them just a few minutes ago as I was walking, all of them gathered and were digging a ditch on the ground enthusiastically.

Apparently, it was interesting to see water flowing into the ditch and making it look like a river, and they were playing so enthusiastically that they didn’t even notice me.

The children may have grown up, but they were still children in this respect, and I couldn’t help but smile at their smiles.

–I must ask them to take a bath as soon as they get back so they would not catch a cold, I guess.

With this in mind, upon returning to the usual course I walked, I noticed that Illuna and the others were playing a little differently than before.

They were making something that looked like a boat out of paper and floating it in the water, leaving the ditch in the river untouched.

“What are you playing with?”

I, curious, called out to them, and Illuna, noticing me, answered.

“Oh, big sis! This is big brother’s play, saying, [Okay, let’s play Pennywise! If there’s a river, we have to float paper boats!] and then he made all the boats for us!”

“Penny…hmmm…another stupid idea, but it’s a very stylish game. And, what happened to him?”

“Ah, Layla came to visit him and said, [Yuki-san, this month, you already spent quite a lot of DP on your games, didn’t you?], so he gave up on playing and left.”

“It was the usual, idiotic Master!”

“…hmmm. Master with a pitiable look on his face.”

The Wraith Girls nodded after Enne’s words.

“Kakaka, I see. So it was as usual. Well, I’m going to make one of those as well! Can you guys teach me how to fold paper?”

“I’m on it! I’ll teach you how to make ships…”

And so Lefi joined Illuna and the others and began to play in the rain.

Yuki, who returned after a while, joined them, and they competed to see who had the prettier boat, or blocked each other by spraying water, or mud, or arguing that it was illegal to do this and that.

After enjoying the rainy weather to the fullest, when it got a little dark, we all took a bath at the Japanese Hot Spring Inn to avoid catching a cold, warm our bodies and souls. After that, we ate the most delicious food prepared by Layla while feeling pleasantly tired.

–The same old, same old routine.

Lefi, feeling a warm sensation deep in her chest, spent another day full of color.
